Adding a Link to Your Website

Adding a link or hyperlink to your website is a critical skill. You will find it fairly easy to create automatic hyperlinks by simply pasting the URL of a website in your site like so:

But that's not very pretty! There is a way for you to select text and turn that text into a link, like this:

Your first task is to locate a website that you would like to link to on your website.

Adding a Link Using Simple HTML

Making hyperlinks doesn't differ substantially whether you are working with a wiki, a blog, or a website. One way you can create a hyperlink on any site is to use some simple HTML.

<a href="http://weberwriters.wikispaces.com/">Creating and Teaching Websites and Podcasts</a>
You will notice the link begins with the code <a href=. After the = sign, paste the URL of the site within quotation marks. Close the link by typing >. Now type the text you want to link. Close the link by typing </a>.

Usually you can add a hyperlink to a website without knowing even that small amount of HTML, however.
